Horse Sanctuaries provide safe and caring homes for horses that have been abused, abandoned, about to be destroyed, or owners can no longer care for them. These organizations provide a natural and stimulating environment for Mustangs to relearn their freedom and independence, while others care for and prepare domestic horses and some Mustangs for adoption to a new loving and caring home.
Rather than allow horses to go to slaughter or be destroyed, these organizations provide rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and retirement for horses from many different situations of abuse and neglect. If a horse cannot be rehabilitated for adoption due to illness, old age, injury or social behavior, they are retired to live out the rest of their days in a happy and healthy environment.
Most sanctuaries are non-profit and are tax-exempt, and are solely supported by contributions from individuals.

Blue Horse Charities was formed in 2001 to assist those providing a a humane solution for Thoroughbreds no longer suitable for breeding or racing. Most particularly, our immediate emphasis is to keep all Thoroughbreds out of the hands of “Killer buyers”. For those of us who love horses — and that’s what got us in to the game in the first place — letting our horses end their days in a slaughter house is no way to show it.

“SAVING LIVES OTHERWISE LOST…”
Epona Horse Rescue is an organization based on the premise that all equine and other animals should live freely from cruelty, neglect and abuse. Many horses simply end up in a rescue situation due to lack of training or being too young or too old to be of use to mankind. Epona is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of unbroken or unhandled horses and to the very young and the aged equine that are often rejected.
We strive to educate the public on the fate of many of America’s horses and ask for the support of the American public. Money is always a pressing need in the rescue. Feed, hay, shelter and veterinary care are the largest of expenses. We also need farrier care, office support and volunteers to continue the work.
Your support can help the rescue continue to rescue and rehabilitate these wonderful animals.
We are a non-profit organization under the IRS 501 (c)(3) regulations.
Description

Fleet of Angels has been called “the most responsive national go-to organization in the country” for helping horse owners and small rescues when they need urgent assistance after being devastated by a natural disaster or other major emergency.
We urgently need your help with the challenge of keeping horses safe and in good care through the seemingly unending crises currently affecting horses in the United States and beyond. Never before in our history have we been asked to help so many horse owners and small rescues overcome challenges that threaten the wellbeing of equines in their care. Horses suffer if we aren’t able to step up, and we hope that you will join us in our goal of never having to turn our backs on equines in crisis due to a lack of funds.
From devastating wildfires still raging in the west to catastrophic hurricanes in the south and east, and with both draught and flooding wrecking havoc in between, disasters are putting incredible numbers of horses and their equine relatives in very perilous situations.
Our goal is to keep horses safe and in good care so they can stay with their loving families and equine friends, giving their owners more time to regroup, repair, and start to recover from devastating situations. By providing a combination of grants and services, Fleet of Angels provides qualified applicants’ horses with what they need to stay safe and healthy during temporary challenges.
No other equine-centric nonprofit in the country laser-focuses its resources on the mission of providing grants and critical services to both private owners and small rescues to help horses through crises.
Description
Our name comes from the first rescue horse we cared for with the trust of Terolyn Horse Rescue, Inc.. Aria was only with us for a few days before she crossed the rainbow bridge, but we were all in love with her already. This sweet horse not only gave hugs, but she loved to be with people. Being in her presence helped us be present and we learned how to revel in every minute and appreciate how lucky we are to work with these amazing creatures. Along with Terolyn’s Founder, Teri, and her staff and volunteers, we believe Aria came into our lives for a reason and we hope to carry on her legacy by helping other horses like her.
For the Love of Aria gives young Mustangs a solid foundation of care and training as they navigate successful transitions away from the wild. We also prioritize advocating for these at-risk horses.
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our EIN is 84-2492909.
We BELIEVE it takes a collaborative community to facilitate change and help America’s Mustangs. We will provide education, resources, and support to the humans making a difference for these beloved horses.
– Provide kind and compassionate gentling and foundation training
– Host educational clinics to help people learn about America’s mustangs and how to successfully work with them
– Offer opportunities to adopt gentled and trained mustangs
– Advocate for the proper management, care, health and well-being of these at-risk horses
– Raise public awareness of the issues and challenges surrounding government roundups and management of America’s mustangs

What we do
Here at Hasty’s Haven, equine welfare is our primary concern. Our mission is to rescue orphan foals and other neglected, abused and abandoned horses as we can in order to find them a loving home and save them from a tragic end.
During their stay with us, we work hard to make sure each horse is given proper medical care, nourishment and loving attention. Coming to Hasty’s Haven provides them a safe environment and for the first time in their lives they are treated the way they deserve.
Who we are
Hasty’s Haven Inc. is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that were bound for slaughter, victims of starvation, neglect, abandonment and abuse. To date, Hasty’s Haven Inc. has helped many Nurse Mare Foals, adult horses, ponies, and donkeys using our own funds and small donations from friends.
We’ve dedicated the past several years to helping change the lives of horses who were bound for grave endings and with your help and support, we can do more.
Why we do it
Horses give us their heart and soul and to disregard or dispose of these beautiful creatures is a violation of that horse as a living being as well as a violation of our ethical and moral compass. Our mission is based on the realization that we have a moral obligation to help these amazing animals that have suffered at the hands of cruel and indifferent people. People who abuse and neglect them and even kill them in order to sell them for food.
Description
Horse ReCourse started because we have found a need for assistance to rehome unwanted horses in Mendocino County. Horses are frequently abandoned or neglected because there is no place for them to go if their owners are no longer able to care for them. Horse Care, even minimal, can be expensive to maintain, and out of reach for many people. Quality care for horses requires many resources, including financial stability, education, and access to professional support, such as veterinary and farrier care. It can be challenging for people to meet the needs of horses in their care for a variety of reasons, and it is always the animal that suffers.
While Horse ReCourse was formally established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2022, its founder and director Robyn has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and responsibly rehoming horses in Mendocino County for many years.
Meet both our current rescues as well as some of the several horses whose lives have been impacted over the years. Horse ReCourse is looking forward to featuring many more success stories.

Unconditional Love Foundation was founded in Tucson, AZ in 1998, after it’s founder, Yvette Spillman, got an eye-opening introduction into the horrific world of abusive puppy mills. Beginning with dog rescue, at first, the charity was soon able to expand to horse rescue. To date, ULF Rescue has saved over 2000 animals, but that’s not nearly enough…we need your help to expand and grow.
Unconditional Love Foundation, now relocated to Murrieta, CA, is a non -profit, federally registered 501©3 organization, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of horses and dogs in need. ULF also seeks to host therapeutic programs for women & children, as well as educational outreach to improve the treatment of animals.
Our desired projects require expansion. We seek to raise funds to purchase and build out a 20-acre property we have located near us, in Murrieta, CA, with possible expansion to the surrounding properties.
