Help Nevada Community Protect Pine Nut Wild Horses!

Two small communities in Nevada fighting to protect their wild horses need our help! The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is accepting public comments on its proposed 10-year management plan for the Pine Nut Mountains Herd Management Area (HMA), which includes the wild horse populations living in the Fish Springs area outside Gardnerville and in the portion of the HMA near Dayton, Nevada.

These wild horses are beloved by the community! Three years ago, community outrage stopped the BLM from rounding up and removing the Fish Springs horses. Over the last two years, the BLM has worked with AWHPC coalition partner the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, based in Gardnerville, to establish a pilot program to manage the Fish Springs horses through a humane PZP birth control program. On the Dayton side of the HMA, our local coalition partner, the Wild Horse Preservation League, has worked cooperatively with the BLM to place game cameras to photo-document how springs in the area are utilized.

The BLM’s new management plan puts these community partnerships in jeopardy! These neighbors now face a real threat of losing their cherished wild horses, many of whom they have literally watched grow up on the range.

We need to support these communities fighting for their wild horses! Please – help us get as many comments as possible to protect the Pine Nut Mountains wild horses – submit your comments today!

Ask Trump Administration to Support Americans’ Desire to Protect Wild Horses and Burros!

We are at a tipping point in the fight for the future of America’s wild horses. The incoming Trump Administration will either support Americans’ desire to protect these national icons or send them down the slaughter pipeline. If confirmed, President Elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the Interior, Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), will play a key role in determining the future for America’s wild horses and burros. Stop Dangerous & Biased Wyoming Wild Horse Radio Collar Study

Comments Due by November 1, 2016

Your comments are needed today to tell the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to drop plans to conduct an unnecessary and dangerous radio collar tracking study of wild mares in Wyoming.

The agency wants to conduct an expensive and traumatic helicopter roundup for the sole purpose of placing radio tracking collars on 30 mares living in the Adobe Town Herd Management Area (HMA). The collars are part of a proposed 5-year study conducted in conjunction with the University of Wyoming to study the movement and habitat selection of the horses. (more…)

Stop Mass Killing of Captured Mustangs

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) just dropped plans to conduct “barbaric” sterilization experiments on wild mares in Oregon in response to a lawsuit by The Cloud Foundation and the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign. But now it’s planning something even worse.

On September 9, the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board passed an “emergency” resolution calling for the BLM to “euthanize” captured wild horses in holding facilities. (more…)

BLM Wyoming Wild Horse Wipeout Continues

Comments Due by September 9, 2016

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is again proposing to remove all wild horses from Checkerboard lands within and outside the Great Divide Basin, Salt Wells Creek, and Adobe Town Herd Management Areas (HMAs) in Wyoming. This roundup is the latest consequence of the BLM’s decision to turn over control of the public lands in this 2-million-acre area to the Rock Springs Grazing Association, whose members own or lease the private land parcels in the Checkerboard and graze their livestock on the public lands in the area as well. Despite the fact that well over half the land in the Checkerboard is public, BLM Rock Springs Field Manager Kimberlee Foster publicly states: “For all intents and purposes, we consider all of the checkerboard private.” (more…)

Support Humane Mustang Management in Colorado!

Please sign by August 3, 2016

On August 4, 2016, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Colorado will hold its annual public hearing on the use of motorized vehicles in wild horse management. While we are usually critical of the BLM’s wild horse policies, this hearing provides a rare opportunity for us to SUPPORT the progress that the BLM in Colorado has made toward implementing humane management of wild horses in that state. Stop America’s Wild Horses & Burros From Sterilization & Mass Slaughter

Mustang Horses in Holding Pens

Danger is growing on Capitol Hill for America’s wild horses and burros. Public lands ranchers and their Congressional allies are pressing for the mass slaughter of 44,000 wild horses in holding and 40,000 considered to be “excess” on the range. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is pushing budget language to strip wild horses of their federal protection and deliver them into the hands of local and state governments in what could provide a back door route to slaughter for thousands.
