The White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue is a Virginia 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused, neglected and at-risk Appaloosa and other horses, especially those in urgent need and in danger of slaughter. We provide shelter, care, medical and rehabilitation services to horses in need, and whenever possible, we place them in loving and permanent homes. Horses that cannot or should not be adopted are given permanent sanctuary so that they may live the remainder of their lives in safety and dignity. Horses in the care of White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue are housed in Burkeville, VA.  Here, they are loved and cared for by unpaid volunteers who generously donate their time and talent.

The White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue is a Virginia registered non-profit corporation. We are an IRS 501c3 tax-exempt organization included in the Guidestar registry of non-profit organizations. We are licensed by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and have been given sales tax exemption by the Virginia Department of Taxation. White Bird is run by a Board of Directors and operations are spelled out in the organization’s Constitution and Articles of Incorporation.

Amazing Grace Equine is organized to provide assistance to horses deemed be valueless or whose sole value may be calculated “by the pound.”
To provide these horses with an option other than shipment to an auction over international borders to a slaughterhouse.
To offer these horses another assessment as companion animals if it’s reasonable and kind to do so and to provide supportive foster homes until appropriate permanent homes may be found.

If it is deemed unsuitable or inhumane to maintain the horse until the end of its natural life, then to humanely euthanize the horse in a calm environment eliciting no trepidation or fear.

Amazing Grace Equine will educate breeders and owners of the ultimate cost of overbreeding and the results of “unwanted” horses.

Amazing Grace Equine will elicit moral and ethical responsibility for the lifetime of horses from equestrians worldwide.

Amazing Grace Equine will be a voice for horses in our community, state, and nation.

Our Mission. To rescue horses in at risk situations, as well as aid and assist horse owners in finding alternatives to auctions and slaughter. EAP provides re-homing assistance, programs, support and educational training in collaboration with like-minded organizations.

Blue Horse Rescue is dedicated to providing horses with a safe and nurturing environment while they heal physically, mentally and emotionally from situations of abandonment, neglect and abuse. We firmly believe that to get back on the road to a loving home the horses need time to settle down and begin to heal. We give them all the support they need: time, great vet care, nutritional support and a lot of love. Our Equine Wellness program includes: yearly vaccines, dentals, fecal egg counts and appropriate rotational worming schedules and, also addressing any health issues that occur.

When ready for adoption, great care will be placed on matching horse and human for the most successful partnership. We aim to provide all horses that come through our rescue with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to become willing, happy, enthusiastic, and most importantly – safe and much loved partners for life.

While our philosophy and goals have remained the same, we are heading in the direction of becoming a miniature horse and pony rescue. As we do now, Blue Horse Rescue will always have a few spots for seniors who need a safe and peaceful place to live out their days.
