Horse ReCourse started because we have found a need for assistance to rehome unwanted horses in Mendocino County. Horses are frequently abandoned or neglected because there is no place for them to go if their owners are no longer able to care for them. Horse Care, even minimal, can be expensive to maintain, and out of reach for many people. Quality care for horses requires many resources, including financial stability, education, and access to professional support, such as veterinary and farrier care. It can be challenging for people to meet the needs of horses in their care for a variety of reasons, and it is always the animal that suffers.

While Horse ReCourse was formally established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2022, its founder and director Robyn has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and responsibly rehoming horses in Mendocino County for many years.

Meet both our current rescues as well as some of the several horses whose lives have been impacted over the years. Horse ReCourse is looking forward to featuring many more success stories.

We are dedicated to equine welfare. Our mission is to develop a network of resources throughout our communities to assist struggling owners and their horses. We strive to compliment the efforts of equine rescue groups, equine sanctuaries and animal control agencies. By uniting our efforts, we hope to raise awareness and address challenges in our equine communities.

Fleet of Angels has been called “the most responsive national go-to organization in the country” for helping horse owners and small rescues when they need urgent assistance after being devastated by a natural disaster or other major emergency.

We urgently need your help with the challenge of keeping horses safe and in good care through the seemingly unending crises currently affecting horses in the United States and beyond. Never before in our history have we been asked to help so many horse owners and small rescues overcome challenges that threaten the wellbeing of equines in their care. Horses suffer if we aren’t able to step up, and we hope that you will join us in our goal of never having to turn our backs on equines in crisis due to a lack of funds.

From devastating wildfires still raging in the west to catastrophic hurricanes in the south and east, and with both draught and flooding wrecking havoc in between, disasters are putting incredible numbers of horses and their equine relatives in very perilous situations.

Our goal is to keep horses safe and in good care so they can stay with their loving families and equine friends, giving their owners more time to regroup, repair, and start to recover from devastating situations. By providing a combination of grants and services, Fleet of Angels provides qualified applicants’ horses with what they need to stay safe and healthy during temporary challenges.

No other equine-centric nonprofit in the country laser-focuses its resources on the mission of providing grants and critical services to both private owners and small rescues to help horses through crises.

Godspeed Horse Hostel Inc is a not for profit 501c3 horse rescue founded in 2004. Since its founding, we have rescued and rehabilitated hundreds of animals and expanded our scope to include all animals. Our local resources available include a hay bank, pet food pantry, and supplies for wildlife rehabilitators…….all still free within our service area.

In addition, Animal Welfare Outreach and Education has become our recent initiative to aid your efforts to assist animals. We have provided you with the very best and current information, contacts and consulting organizations for help with humane education, animal cruelty reporting, animal law enforcement, and lobbying and legislation for animals.

Either through Godspeed Horse Hostel or Animal Outreach and Education, we are out in the field everyday to provide both hands-on and educational services to protect animals and prevent cruelty. We appreciate everything you are doing for animals and are here to assist and advise.
